When did you start at DPEM?
March 2017

What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Reliable, Loyal, and Lighthearted.

What would be your last meal?
Pizza, a burger, and crunchy tacos! All three are required!!

Favorite place you have ever traveled?
The Bahamas. My family goes every summer, so it’s a special destination!

Retirement Dreams?
Moving to Costa Rica, where my husband is originally from and opening a bar directly on Tamarindo beach!

Favorite Band or Musician?
Beyonce and Lady Gaga!

Why did you get started in the event industry originally?
I’m very organized, which is key to this profession and I like planning a project from start to finish and seeing the end result come to life. I really enjoy hosting people and watching them have a good time at an event I helped put together.

What has been the biggest challenge you have overcome professionally, and what was your solution?
I’ve worked at many non-profit organizations with some challenging Boards and Trustees, but I’ve found that honest and direct communication can usually lead to understanding and compromise.

What is your favorite part about working in the event industry?
The energy and fast-paced world we operate in. 

What was the best event you ever attended?
My wedding! It was in Las Vegas and required very, very little planning and yet everyone had a blast because it was so relaxed. It had a fun, vacation vibe!

What has been your proudest moment professionally?
Planning a ground-breaking event for 2000 guests that included a live and silent auction on an active construction site. I called that one ‘tent city’ because of the massive number of structures we built!

What is your favorite thing about living in the Bay Area?
Being near family and the water!

Where can you be found on your time off from work?
In the kitchen cooking, walking my dog Emmy, or at the Barre working out!

What client would you love to work with and why?
Anything food related or with a celebrity chef! I love to cook and admire professional chefs, so any time spent around them and learning a new technique or tip would be super special to me!

What is your best-kept secret to success?
Always tell them you have less in the budget than you have!!!

Oceanwide Center Groundbreaking

Recognizing the Oceanwide Center as a cornerstone of the growing San Francisco skyline, DPEM produced an elevated groundbreaking experience that brought together city officials, community leaders, developers, and architects to celebrate the impact the skyscrapers will have on the community.

Working with the Oceanwide team to identify program goals and brand messaging, DPEM translated these elements into a clear concept and design for the event. Robust imagery and giant models were created for the event in order to show the project’s vision and immerse guests into the Oceanwide experience. DPEM was responsible for managing the event concept and design, translation service for international attendees, city permits, vendor management, collateral fulfillment, food & beverage, stage production, and overall logistics and execution of the program.

The Oceanwide Center will comprise of two high-rise towers adjacent to the Transbay Terminal, Salesforce Tower, and 181 Fremont.  The center promotes a sustainable approach to urban development incorporating mix-use of space consisting of commercial, residential, and public areas that will celebrate the city’s future, while honoring its history.

Meet the Team: Michelle Madrid

When did you start at DPEM?
I started as a contractor in September 2016 and joined the team full-time in January 2017.

What three words would you use to describe yourself? Fun, positive, and go-getter.

What would be your last meal?
Sushi with lots of wasabi on the side.

Favorite place you have ever traveled?
I love traveling and have so many beautiful memories from each place, so it’s hard to pick just one! However, I had the opportunity to travel through Mexico alone for a few months after graduating from college. I went to Oxaca, Puerto Escondido, San Luis Potosi, and Mexico City.  I grew in so many ways on that trip – it’s one of my fondest memories.

Favorite Band or Musician?
Oh man, too many! But some of my top favorites are Prince, Radiohead, Kendrick Lamar, Little Dragon, Jimi Hendrix, and Juanes.

Why did you get started in the event industry originally?
I was actually on my way to pursue a career in fashion marketing before getting into events.  While I was in school finishing my degree, I needed a paid internship so I answered a Craigslist ad for an intern to manage “all events pertaining to entertainment, including family friendly movies to gory horror films.” I said, welp sign me up! That was in 2007 and I haven’t looked back since!

What is your favorite part about working in the event industry?
The perks! When you get to know other people in the industry and build a rapport with them, you get to attend other cool events… for free!

What was the best event you ever attended?
A light installation event that took place at Grand Park in Los Angeles.  It was extremely innovative.

What has been your proudest moment professionally?
Having my ‘secret’ Fight Club DVD release event featured in the LA Times.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Bay Area?
The food!! So many delicious choices. And all the beautiful nature you come across wherever you walk.

Where can you be found on your time off from work?
Riding my bike and cuddling with my little nugget – my one-year-old daughter.

What client would you love to work with and why?
Either Tom Ford during NY Fashion Week or produce ANY event for Beyoncé.

What is your best-kept secret to success?
Remember, we’re not curing cancer – have fun!
