An Evening to Remember – Ruby’s Place 45th Anniversary

Ruby's Place, planning meeting,

DPEM worked with our longtime cause-partner Ruby’s Place to produce their 45th Anniversary event, bringing to life the work of the organization through the amazing stories of those whose lives have been positively effected. Our story with Ruby’s Place begins with a long history of friendship between our founder, Dominic Phillips and Ruby’s Place Executive Director, Vera Ciammetti – who first met through the production of Slow Food Nation. Since 1972, Ruby’s Place Foundation has served the entire Bay Area as the largest shelter for survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence in Alameda County, and DPEM has been a longtime supporter of the organization and the valuable impact it has on our local community. The DPEM team came together and donated their time to craft a meaningful experience that increased awareness for Ruby’s Place and the work they are doing.  The event brought together a wonderful community of supporters, and gave guests the chance to meet former clients and hear their stories first-hand – a unique opportunity as clients are protected by Federal confidentiality standards.

Rubys Place 45th Anniversary, San Francisco Ferry Building

The celebration took place at the iconic San Francisco Ferry Building with remarks made by survivors and city leadership that inspired guests and further emphasized the impact of the foundation – providing a safety net of food, clothing, affordable housing, counseling, supplies, and medical & legal services so clients can focus on rebuilding their lives within a safe environment.  In addition to celebrating 45 years of community impact, the event provided an ideal platform to unveil plans for a new shelter, and further promote the new men’s shelter opened in October 2017 for labor trafficked men rescued from FBI stings. Although the event wasn’t intended to be a fundraiser, it generated a significant amount of funds for the foundation, adding even more cause to celebrate.  We are so proud to have been able to contribute to Ruby’s Place 45th Anniversary. Given the tragic events that have affected everyone this year, the biggest reward for our team was having the opportunity to support a cause that creates positive change in people’s lives.
